This past week was a hard one for me – and for my family – but it was also an incredible week, at that – the story of my life.  Hans is right into the 13-year-old scene, both feet in.  Bless him.  I love this kid so much and wish I could just wave a wand and he could be through his adolescent years and onto the rest of his life.  But I suppose that this is an important, albeit painful time for our development from childhood into adulthood.  It kills me to see him so conflicted about his life, his friends, his path.  Peter has worked so hard at building a strong foundation with him and I can see Hans wanting to step up and meet his father halfway.  Amazing young man, Hans.  Teaches me things about myself everyday.

Then there is Theo.  Thelonious Lee DeHaas.  He is also incredible.  Amazing.  And an excellent teacher, much like his brother, Hans.  I cannot come home from work fried anymore because he needs me to be totally present and ready to interact.  What a fabulous thing for me!  I have to get out of my head and into my heart immediately when I get him from school.  When my car drives up to the playground, Theo yells, “MOM! MOM! MOM!!!” and runs to me, arm pumping back and forth, something that I will have to do a video of sometime because it is so hilarious.  He is truly the best thing I ever produced – makes the Pulitzer feel like a grilled cheese.  🙂

My baby counts to 20 now…

Our great friends Todd and Kelly Heisler came into town for photographer Chris Schneider’s wedding and we had the pleasure of having a small dinner party at our house – chicken curry – which was fantastic.  It is always so great to connect with Todd and Kelly because of …  well – bottom line is, they rock.  Another group of buddies were getting together down the street and they came by later, which kept things rocking a bit too late for me, but it was worth every brain cell that was lost.  The next morning, Todd met us for breakfast at Pete’s, which is my husbands favorite place to have breakfast.  (Kelly had plans with a buddy) The kids adore Todd and Theo woke up Sunday morning saying, “Go see Todd?”  Thank gosh that Denver has a lot of news so the Times keeps sending him back!  Wish Kelly could come more often!

Peter had a great job interview with the Colorado Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing last Friday.  It was a really important experience for him and I hope that he gets the part time position he applied for.  But if he does not get it, at least he loves his work at Imagine! and is changing people’s lives everyday.  That is what it is all about.  I have been having a rough time with the economy and worry about my parents.  I mean, my family could go live in an Airstream on our land in Taos for cheap if we had to, but my dad is so sick and his care costs so much money and I know their retirement just took a huge dive.  Not fair.  Those a-hole CEO’s need to give back all of those millions of dollars of golden parachutes they were given to leave AND they need to have their salaries capped, just like Obama recommended.  This corporate state has gone on long enough.  They should have all they need after 8 years of this baloney.  I just don’t get it.  And I just do not get why the American people do not have marches in the streets like they do in Italy.

Ahhh, but then there is Theo clutching his Thomas the Train to his chest smiling at me.  And I am back out of my head…
